Head constable nabbed in Ahmedabad for extorting ₹5 lakh from Mumbai trader

Ahmedabad: The Nikol police have arrested a head constable for allegedly extorting ₹5 lakh from a Mumbai-based businessman.

Head Constable Nagji Shankarbhai Chaudhary, currently posted with the I-Traffic Police, was arrested in connection with the case. Earlier, two TRB jawans had also been arrested, while one more policeman remains absconding.

The incident dates back to August 17, when the accused constable, along with three accomplices, allegedly intercepted the car of complainant Vajeram Gurjar near Dastan Circle on the SP Ring Road.

According to the complaint, the police personnel forced Vajeram and his brother out of their vehicle and took them to a nearby cabin. The accused then allegedly demanded ₹20 lakh, claiming the trader was involved in illegal cricket betting activities.

Under pressure, Vajeram handed over ₹1 lakh in cash and transferred an additional ₹4.88 lakh through net banking and Google Pay, after which they were released. He later filed a complaint at the Nikol Police Station, following which the accused were booked under BNS Sections 308(2), 127(7), and 54.

Nikol Police said the investigation is ongoing to trace the remaining accused and verify the financial transactions related to the alleged extortion. DeshGujarat
