Terror case accused doctor attacked by inmates in Sabarmati Jail

Sabarmati: Dr. Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed, who was arrested by the Gujarat Anti-Terror Squad for his alleged links with the terrorist organization Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), was attacked by fellow inmates at Sabarmati Central Jail. During the assault, Syed sustained injuries to his eye, face, and other parts of his body and was subsequently admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the incident occurred in the under-trial barracks when Syed had an interaction with three fellow inmates. A disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which the three inmates allegedly attacked him.

In response, the Gujarat ATS immediately visited the jail to assess the situation, while authorities transferred Syed to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for urgent treatment. Medical officials confirmed that he sustained injuries to his eye, face, and other parts of his body and remains under close observation.

Ranip police arrived at the scene shortly after the attack and have initiated formal proceedings. Investigators are working to identify the assailants and determine whether the assault was the result of a personal conflict or part of a larger conspiracy within the prison.

A senior prison official confirmed that the incident is being investigated “from all possible angles” and indicated that additional security measures are likely to be enforced to prevent similar incidents in the future. DeshGujarat
