November 19, 2025
Surat: Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) conducted a citywide review meeting on Wednesday as part of compliance with directives issued by the Supreme Court in suo motu proceedings concerning the stray dog menace. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (Health and Hospitals) and included officials from government and semi-government hospitals, the railway station, bus station, the District Education Office, as well as executive engineers and deputy health officers from all municipal zones.
During the meeting, authorities directed all government, semi-government, and private educational institutions, hospitals, bus stations, railway stations, and similar establishments within SMC limits to strengthen their fencing, boundary walls, and entry-exit points to safeguard premises from stray dogs. Each institution has been instructed to appoint a nodal officer to monitor and supervise compliance, and to carry out IEC (Information, Education & Communication) activities on the issue.
Officials further instructed all institutions to conduct inspections every three months to ensure that no areas within the premises or complexes turn into shelter points for stray dogs. The committee also called for the preparation of a detailed database covering all related information for ongoing monitoring. DeshGujarat
