MNS workers object to Gujarati signage at Girgaon eatery; issue 15-day ultimatum

Mumbai: In the wake of the upcoming civic body polls, the language politics has heated up again in Mumbai. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has objected to the alleged use of Gujarati signboards and menus at Sakhi Gruha Udyog in the Girgaon area and has issued a 15-day ultimatum to replace them with Marathi signage. Two days ago, workers of Raj Thackeray’s MNS visited the establishment and objected to the use of Gujarati on the signboard, bill book, and menus.

MNS functionary Dinesh Punde said on Wednesday that the party had received complaints from local residents regarding Sakhi Gruha Udyog, which was reportedly using a Gujarati bill book, while its menu board and shop name were also displayed in Gujarati.

“We took up the matter on Tuesday,” Punde said, adding that the eatery has assured the MNS that it will change both the display board and the signboard to Marathi. “We have given them 15 days to make the necessary changes,” he added. DeshGujarat
