ACB Gujarat arrests cop, aide in ₹1.5 lakh bribery case; two others on run

Bhavnagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat carried out a trap in Bhavnagar on Friday, arresting two individuals for accepting a bribe of ₹1,50,000, while two others, including a government official, are currently absconding.

According to the ACB, accused Dasharathsinh Panchabhai Chauhan, serving as Extension Officer (Class-3) at Shihor Taluka Panchayat, allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹2,00,000 from the complainant. The demand was made to reinstate the complainant to the position of Cluster Coordinator, clear pending salary dues, and ensure that no police complaint would be filed against him.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which then organized a trap based on the complaint.

During the operation, the prime accused, Dasharathsinh Chauhan, instructed the complainant through his associate to hand over the bribe amount to other accused individuals. During the trap, accused Ruturajsinh Dhirubhai Parmar (29), a Class-3 Police Constable, and accused Jigar Jayantibhai Thakkar (37), accepted the bribe money and were arrested on the spot at Agarwal Eye Hospital, first floor.

Meanwhile, prime accused Dasharathsinh Chauhan and Virendrasinh Prahladsinh Gohil (resident of Shihor) managed to escape and have been declared wanted.

The entire ₹1,50,000 bribe amount has been recovered during the operation. Further investigation is underway, and efforts are on to trace the absconding accused. DeshGujarat
