Godhra: In a tragic incident, four members of a family died in a house fire on Bamroli Road early Friday morning. The deceased — Kamal Doshi, his wife Deval, and their sons Dev and Raj — were found inside their residence by fire and emergency services personnel.
According to preliminary reports, the fire is suspected to have started due to a short circuit in the air conditioner. Officials said the blaze is believed to have erupted during the early hours while the family was asleep. Although the exact cause has not yet been confirmed, a sofa in the basement reportedly caught fire first, which quickly spread through the house, filling it with dense smoke.
With the doors and windows shut and no ventilation, the oxygen level dropped rapidly, causing all four victims to die of suffocation in their sleep.
The family, who operated Doshi Jewellers, had locked up the house for the night and switched on the AC before going to bed. They were scheduled to travel to Vapi early Friday morning for the engagement of their elder son, Dev. A taxi had been arranged for the trip, and suspicion arose when the driver reached the residence and received no response despite repeated calls.
Upon noticing smoke seeping from the house, the driver immediately alerted relatives and neighbours. Kamalbhai’s niece, Krupa, along with other residents, rushed to the spot and raised an alarm. The fire brigade arrived shortly after, broke the window grill to gain entry, and pulled the victims out. However, after being taken to the hospital, doctors declared all four dead.
Police have registered a case of accidental death, and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Kamal Doshi owned Vardhaman Jewellers in Godhra. DeshGujarat
