Sabarmati Jail to get 1,300 AI-based CCTV cameras in major security upgrade
November 22, 2025
Ahmedabad: The Sabarmati Central Jail administration has launched a major security upgrade with the installation of advanced AI-based surveillance cameras. As part of this initiative, 1,300 new cameras equipped with artificial intelligence will be deployed across the facility.
These cameras are designed to enhance several critical security functions, including facial recognition and night vision. They will continuously monitor inmate activity along the jail boundary and trigger automatic alarms if any prisoner attempts to scale the perimeter.
The system is also capable of detecting unauthorised movements within the jail, such as inmates attempting to move between barracks. Additionally, the AI software can identify crowd formation, for example, if five to seven people gather in a single barrack, allowing authorities to prevent potential incidents proactively. The cameras are further equipped to detect tampering attempts.
To efficiently manage this complex surveillance network, a dedicated Command and Control Center is being established for the AI-based camera system. Officials say the project will significantly strengthen internal security and help maintain strict monitoring of inmate activities. DeshGujarat
