22 shops sealed in Surat Textile Market
November 24, 2025
Surat: Authorities took strict action in the Surat Textile Market, located on the Ring Road, sealing 22 shops over long-standing issues concerning unpaid lease renewals. The move has sparked widespread anger and outrage among the market’s traders.
The administration confirmed that the sealing was carried out because the shopkeepers failed to deposit the required lease payments. According to officials, the lease tenure for these shops had expired, and the payments were overdue. The authorities stated that three notices had been issued to the traders, but the shopkeepers still did not pay the lease dues.
This action marks a significant escalation in a dispute over the lease that has been ongoing for a considerable period. Sources said the long-running tangle regarding the lease issue had become increasingly complicated, culminating in the sealing of the shops. The action triggered an outpouring of resentment among the affected traders. DeshGujarat
