AMC plans to set up 33 new reading libraries across Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced that it plans to establish 33 new reading libraries across the city, in a move to enhance civic amenities for residents.

In an official statement, the AMC said that to support the needs of book lovers, students preparing for competitive examinations, and senior citizens, it currently operates 56 reading libraries across seven zones of the city. To further strengthen and expand the city’s public reading infrastructure, AMC has planned the creation of 33 additional reading libraries.

Construction of new libraries in Nikol, Ranip, Vastral, Rakhiyal, and Naroda has already been completed, and these facilities will be inaugurated shortly. All AMC-operated reading libraries offer completely free services, including access to a wide variety of magazines covering topics relevant to exam preparation as well as subjects of interest to senior citizens. Additionally, readers can access multiple daily newspapers at these libraries.

AMC’s core objective is to ensure that every zone, ward, and locality has at least one easily accessible reading library. To achieve this goal, councillors and MLAs are actively supporting the initiative. The process of equipping all libraries with CCTV and Wi-Fi facilities is underway, and CCTV installation has already been completed in 11 libraries, the AMC further said.

Over Four Lakh Readers in Just Six Months

Within a span of just six months, the city’s reading libraries have witnessed a remarkable rise in readership. From April 2025 to September 2025, a total of 4,05,589 readers availed the services of AMC-operated reading libraries. This significant number reflects the city’s growing enthusiasm and commitment towards reading culture.
