Couple held with ₹35 lakh narcotics haul in Ahmedabad; interstate MD drug racket busted

Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad City Crime Branch has arrested a husband-and-wife duo from Vadaj after recovering a large quantity of Mephedrone (MD) drugs, busting a major interstate narcotics network operating between Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Crime Branch raided a house in Khat Colony near Akhbarnagar Circle, where the accused, Kamlesh Bishnoi of Rajasthan, and his wife Rajeshwari were allegedly storing and selling narcotics.

During the search conducted in the presence of witnesses (panch), officials recovered suspicious powder from the couple’s possession as well as from a plastic container inside the house. On-the-spot testing by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed the substance to be Mephedrone (MD).

In total, 357.75 grams of MD, valued at ₹35,77,500, was seized. Police also recovered ₹22,800 in cash, two mobile phones, and an electronic weighing scale. The combined value of the seizure stands at ₹36,40,800.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that the narcotics supply chain extended beyond Gujarat. The couple told police that they had procured the consignment from a relative, Subhash Godara, a resident of Sanchore in Rajasthan. Further investigation indicated that Godara had sourced the drugs from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The arrested duo had been selling the MD locally to users in Ahmedabad.

The Crime Branch has registered a case under the NDPS Act and launched efforts to trace and arrest the prime supplier and other associates linked to the racket.

Officials said the operation marks a significant breakthrough in their ongoing crackdown on narcotics distribution networks in the city. DeshGujarat
