Training Aircraft Skids Off Runway at Amreli Airport
December 08, 2025
Amreli: A major accident was narrowly averted at Amreli Airport early on Monday after a training aircraft from the local flying school skidded off the runway. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
According to preliminary information, routine training operations were underway when the aircraft suddenly lost grip upon reaching the runway and veered off track. The airport manager said the plane slipped due to a sudden loss of traction on the runway surface.
The incident has raised questions about the functioning of the airport authorities. It is alleged that officials initially attempted to withhold information from the media and suppress details of the mishap. While the airport authority maintained silence immediately after the incident, Amreli Provincial Officer Mahesh Nakia later confirmed that the runway excursion had indeed taken place.
Nakia said the aircraft skidded shortly after touchdown, adding that there were no casualties. He also acknowledged that similar incidents have occurred at the airport in the past.
This marks the third such runway-skidding incident at Amreli Airport. In an earlier and more serious accident, a training aircraft had crashed and caught fire, claiming the life of the pilot. DeshGujarat
