Submit measures taken to curb stray cattle menace: Gujarat HC to Dwarka civic body

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat High Court has directed the Dwarka Municipality to submit details of the measures it has taken to control the rising menace of stray cattle and bulls. The directive was issued on Monday during the hearing of a PIL alleging multiple deaths caused by such incidents.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice D.N. Ray instructed the Chief Officer of Dwarka Nagarpalika to submit an affidavit outlining the steps taken to address the issue.

During the hearing, the petitioner highlighted the unchecked presence of stray cattle and bulls in public areas, claiming that nearly 2,000 such animals freely roam the streets of Dwarka, a major religious and tourist destination. These unchecked animals pose serious risks to residents and visitors, the petition claimed.

The court also noted references to several newspaper reports highlighting fatalities caused by stray bull attacks.

Responding to the plea, the municipality’s counsel stated that periodic drives are conducted to capture stray bulls, which are then shifted to shelters or gaushalas.

The bench granted two additional weeks to the municipality to file its formal response. DeshGujarat DeshGujarat
