Trio held in Bank of Baroda fake gold loan scam case in Anand

Anand: The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Anand Police has arrested two more accused in a fraud case involving fake gold loans worth ₹31.55 lakh at the Bank of Baroda branch in Piplav village, Sojitra. The scam was allegedly carried out by taking gold loans in the names of seven different people using fake gold ornaments. Police said the investigation is still underway.

According to officials, the prime accused, Minesh Parmar of Piplav village—who used to assist locals with bank work and loan applications—allegedly planned the fraud after gaining trust and connections at the branch. He is accused of conspiring with bank valuer Anilkumar Kanaiyalal Soni, who issued valuation certificates falsely declaring the jewellery as genuine. Parmar also took help from his friend Gabhu alias Morli Bapubhai Bharwad, who supplied the fake gold ornaments. Together, they allegedly obtained gold loans in the names of seven people.

Police stated that Parmar convinced villagers, including Bhagubhai Parmar, that the loans would be repaid regularly and the jewellery would be redeemed. However, during the mandatory reassessment of gold for loans above ₹3 lakh, the ornaments were found to be fake. As the bank began recovery calls, the villagers confronted Parmar but received no response. They eventually realised they had been cheated.

Following a complaint at Sojitra Police Station, SOG officers arrested Minesh Parmar. During interrogation, he reportedly revealed that Gabhu Bharwad had supplied the fake ornaments and that Soni had issued the forged valuation certificates. Investigators say the three shared the loan amounts among themselves.

The SOG has now arrested Anilkumar Soni and Gabhu Bharwad, along with Parmar, and further questioning is in progress as police probe the full extent of the fraud. DeshGujarat
