Delay in National Highway Work Triggers Protest on Idar–Shamlaji Highway

Sabarkantha: Prolonged delays in the construction work on the Idar–Shamlaji Highway have triggered widespread anger among local residents, with a large number of villagers staging a protest near Revas village on the National Highway on Wednesday. Protesters raised slogans and accused the administration of failing to complete the long-pending work despite repeated representations.

Locals alleged that the incomplete highway work has severely deteriorated road conditions, causing extreme inconvenience to commuters. They said continuous flying dust and damaged stretches have made travel hazardous, turning the highway into an accident-prone zone. Several recent accidents on the stretch have further fuelled public resentment.

Tensions escalated as angry residents blocked the National Highway, leading to the formation of long queues of vehicles on both sides of the road. Following information about the blockade, police were deployed at the site to manage the situation and restore traffic movement.

Meanwhile, the protesters issued a clear warning, stating that if the highway work is not completed at the earliest, they would intensify their agitation and launch more aggressive protests in the coming days. DeshGujarat
