Over 1 crore families in Gujarat covered under AB PMJAY-MA: Govt

Gandhinagar: The state of Gujarat has integrated the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PMJAY) with the Gujarat Mukhyamantri Amritam Yojana (MA), covering over 1.2 crore families, an official statement said.
In July 2023, under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the annual insurance coverage per family under AB PMJAY-MA was increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, strengthening health security for economically vulnerable populations.
Speaking about the implementation, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said,
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured health security for the poor and middle class through Ayushman cards under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Under his guidance, Gujarat has implemented projects from Yoga to Ayushman to promote a healthier society. By increasing financial assistance from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, people in remote and poor areas now have access to free treatment for serious illnesses, alongside high-quality services in government hospitals. Through a healthy Gujarat, we are moving towards the Prime Minister’s vision of a developed India by 2047.”
AB PMJAY – Financial Assistance under MA Increased from ₹5 Lakh to ₹10 Lakh; Premium Amount Adjusted
When financial assistance of ₹5 lakh was provided under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana – Mukhyamantri Amritam (AB PMJAY-MA), the premium amount per family was ₹2,177.10 from July 1, 2021, to July 10, 2022, with a total financial expenditure of ₹1,681.20 crore. Thereafter, from July 11, 2022, to July 10, 2023, the premium was ₹1,492, and the total expenditure was ₹1,363.52 crore.
On July 10, 2023, the state government increased the financial assistance under the scheme from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh, resulting in an increased premium amount of ₹3,708 per family. The total financial expenditure from July 11, 2023, to July 10, 2024, was ₹2,676.26 crore, while from July 11, 2024, to July 10, 2025, it was ₹3,210.03 crore.
Currently, a total of 2,090 hospitals are empanelled in the state under the AB PMJAY-MA scheme, including 1,132 government hospitals and 958 private hospitals. The scheme covers 2,299 procedures and 50 SRS procedures as of November 2025. Notably, Gujarat ranks first in the timely payment of claims to beneficiaries under this scheme.
‘Karmayogi Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’ for State Employees and Pensioners
Launched in May 2025, the Gujarat Karmayogi Swasthya Suraksha Yojana provides cashless medical treatment to state government officers, employees, pensioners, and All India Services (AIS) officers under the G-category AB PMJAY-MA cards, benefiting 6.40 lakh individuals.
66-Year-Old Farooqbhai Receives Financial Assistance of ₹5,24,040 under AB PMJAY-MA for Heart Treatment
Farooqbhai Khimani, a 66-year-old resident of Ahmedabad, runs a general store and is of moderate financial means. He was admitted to the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre after experiencing heart pain. An ECG revealed coronary artery disease, and he was advised to undergo heart surgery, which was expected to be very costly.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya-MA Amrutam Yojana (PMJAY-MA), he received financial assistance of ₹5,24,040 from the state government. In May 2025, Farooqbhai underwent coronary angiography and coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. Recently, in December 2025, he was readmitted to UN Mehta Hospital due to breathing difficulties and successfully underwent CRT-P implant surgery.
Currently, his health has improved significantly, and he expressed relief and gratitude, saying,
“The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana has helped me and many patients like me tremendously. Many thanks to the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister for implementing this scheme, which provides the best medical facilities for the poor and middle-class people of the state.” DeshGujarat
