AMC clears 11k Lari-gallas, 4k Sheds; Collects ₹1 crore fine in anti-encroachment drive

Ahmedabad: To ease long-standing traffic problems in Ahmedabad city, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) undertook an extensive anti-encroachment drive between April 1, 2025, and December 15, 2025, to clear public roads and ensure smoother vehicular movement.

As per an official statement, AMC removed encroachments such as lari-gallas, tin sheds, boards, banners, and hoardings from major city roads. Along with this, strict action was taken against vehicles parked haphazardly on public roads. Over the past nine months, a total of 18,488 vehicles were wheel-locked and 18,175 vehicles were fined, helping curb illegal parking.

As part of the anti-encroachment campaign, AMC removed a total of 11,457 lari-galla encroachments across all seven zones. In addition, 4,249 sheds, 90,503 instances of other encroaching materials, and 39,361 boards, banners, and hoardings were removed. These actions have widened road space and made commuting easier for motorists. During the drive, administrative charges totaling ₹1 crore 10 lakh 19 thousand were collected.

In the West Zone, 1,532 lari-gallas were removed from major routes such as Golden Triangle to Stadium Crossroads and Swastik Crossroads to Panchvati Crossroads, significantly improving traffic flow in the area. In the North-West Zone, the removal of 1,815 lari-gallas from roads stretching from the High Court area to Vaishnodevi Circle reduced congestion on major roads.

In the South-West Zone, 1,156 lari-gallas were removed from key stretches of the S.G. Highway, resulting in faster vehicular movement. The East Zone saw the highest number of removals, with 1,956 lari-gallas cleared, providing notable relief from traffic congestion in Thakkarbapanagar and surrounding areas.

In the Central Zone, 1,888 lari-gallas were removed from busy areas such as Bhadra, Teen Darwaja, Kalupur Railway Station, and Chokha Bazaar, opening up roads for both pedestrians and vehicles. In the North Zone, 1,724 lari-gallas were removed, while in the South Zone, 1,386 lari-gallas were cleared, reducing daily traffic pressure on local roads. DeshGujarat
