Gandhinagar Rape Accused Shot in Leg During Escape Attempt

Gandhi Nagar: A female Police Inspector fired at the accused originally hailing from Bihar who raped a 4-year-old girl five days ago, with one bullet hitting his leg.

Following the FIR on December 15, police launched “Operation Viranga” to apprehend him.

On Saturday evening, while at the Sector-24 crime scene for panchnama, the accused attempted to flee from custody. Woman PI Lata Desai chased him and fired three rounds, injuring his leg. He was rushed for treatment. Shocked by the police action, the accused begged for mercy with folded hands. Police investigation revealed porn clips on his mobile, including some with animals.

SP Details the Crime

Gandhi Nagar SP Ravi Teja Vasam Shetty stated: “Accused Ram Guneet Dev Nandan Yadav used to frequently visit Sector-24 Indira Nagar for shopping. He was on the lookout for prey. During this time, he spotted the 4-year-old girl. A week before the rape, he had reconnoitred the child. He planned the rape before heading to Bihar. On the night of the incident, he picked up the sleeping girl and took her 300 meters away to nearby bushes, where he raped her. After the girl lost consciousness, he assumed she was dead and fled.”

Operation and Police Action

Police activated multiple teams under Operation Viranga in different directions. Technical analysis helped identify and nab the accused. On December 20, while collecting evidence at Sector-24 Indira Nagar thatched area, he tried to escape. Sector-21 PI Lata Desai fired three rounds, one striking his leg. This marks the seventh police firing incident on accused in Gujarat in the last four months, with three linked to rape cases. One accused died near Ambapur Canal in Gandhi Nagar, while six others were injured.

Crowds gathered after the firing. Delighted by the police action against the rapist, locals raised slogans of “Gujarat Police Zindabad” and “Gandhi Nagar Police Zindabad.”
