Advertisement Banner Hung on Morarji Desai Statue in Navsari; Triggers Row
December 22, 2025
Navsari: A controversy erupted in the city after an advertisement banner was found covering the face of the statue of former Prime Minister Morarji Desai in the Lunsikui area, opposite the Circuit House.
The incident came to light after local residents noticed a banner advertising Surat-based Vitrag Hospital hanging over the face of the revered leader’s statue. It is yet to be ascertained whether the banner was installed by the hospital or placed by unidentified miscreants. Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the matter.
Following the incident, former Navsari municipal councillor and Anavil community leader Prashant Desai rushed to the site and removed the banner. Subsequently, the Navsari Municipal Corporation ensured that the statue was completely cleared of all posters.
Strongly condemning the act, Desai termed it a “heinous and unacceptable offence.” He said Morarji Desai was not only a former Prime Minister but also a highly respected national leader and an icon of the Anavil community. “Using statues of national figures for advertising reflects utter disregard for public sentiment and dignity,” he stated.
Although illegal banners have surfaced across the city in recent times, this incident crossed all limits as the banner was deliberately placed over the statue’s face, entirely obscuring it.
Desai further announced that a police complaint would be lodged against the advertising agency, the concerned hospital, and any individuals found responsible for the act.
The incident has triggered widespread public outrage, with citizens demanding strict action and stronger enforcement to safeguard public monuments and uphold the legacy of national leaders. DeshGujarat
