Two key roads in Ahmedabad to be shut for traffic during New Year celebrations

Ahmedabad: Two key roads, namely C.G. Road and Sindhu Bhavan Road, in the city will remain completely closed to traffic for a few hours during the upcoming New Year celebrations. Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik has issued special traffic restrictions and vehicle-movement guidelines to ensure public safety, smooth traffic flow, and security in the city between 31 December 2025 and 1 January 2026.
The restrictions, notified under the provisions of the Gujarat Police Act, 1951 and the Gujarat Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, include road closures, diversion routes, and parking bans in key locations.
Key Traffic Restrictions
C.G. Road
Vehicle entry will be closed from Stadium Circle to Panchvati from 18:00 hrs on 31 December to 03:00 hrs on 1 January.
Legal parking on both sides of C.G. Road will be suspended from 18:00 hrs onward.
Alternative routes have been provided via Samartheshwar Mahadev – Bodyline Char Rasta and Mithakhali Circle – St. Xavier’s Road – Navrangpura Bus Stand; however, vehicles will not be permitted to ply directly on C.G. Road from 20:00 hrs.
Sindhu Bhavan Road
Both sides of the road from Jhajarman Junction to Taj Skyline Junction will remain closed to all vehicles from 20:00 hrs on 31 December to 03:00 hrs on 1 January.
Alternative routes include Jhajarman via Ashwamedh Bungalow to Kalibari Mandir Road and Jhajarman via Baghban to Shilaj Circle.
S.G. Highway (Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway)
Movement of heavy and medium goods vehicles will be prohibited from 08:00 hrs on 31 December to 03:00 hrs on 1 January. Drivers have been advised to use the Sardar Patel Ring Road instead.
Parking Restrictions
Parking will be prohibited on S.G. Road and its service roads from Pakwan Crossroads to Sanand Chowkdi from 19:00 hrs on 31 December to 03:00 hrs on 1 January.
Parking of private luxury buses from Nehrunagar Circle to ISKCON Crossroads will also be banned during this period.
Exceptions
Government vehicles, fire brigade vehicles, and ambulances on duty will be exempted from these restrictions.
Implementation
The order will be strictly enforced under Section 33 of the Gujarat Police Act. Violators may face action under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, and Section 131 of the Gujarat Police Act.
