BSF Floating BOP Repairs Delayed; Contractor Penalised in Kutch

Kutch: Serious negligence has come to light in the maintenance work of a Floating Border Outpost (BOP) deployed by the Border Security Force (BSF) Water Wing to prevent infiltration into India’s territorial waters, particularly in the sensitive Sir Creek region.

The floating outpost was brought to Mandvi Port for repairs around six months ago. However, delays in the repair work and substandard workmanship prompted intervention at the highest level. Following an inspection, the administration imposed a penalty on the civil contractor responsible for the maintenance.

According to reports, a survey conducted by central authorities found that both the repair process and the quality of work carried out by the contractor failed to meet prescribed standards. Based on the survey findings, punitive action was initiated.

Once the repair work on the floating outpost is completed, it will be redeployed for operational duty in the Sir Creek area. Subsequently, other floating BOPs will be brought to Mandvi Port in a phased manner for maintenance and repairs.

The phased maintenance programme aims to ensure uninterrupted and effective surveillance along the entire maritime border of Kutch, while also enhancing the operational efficiency of the BSF Water Wing. DeshGujarat
