Vadodara: In a brazen daylight robbery in the Akota area of Vadodara, a 74-year-old man was allegedly robbed of his gold chain by a youth posing as a food delivery executive. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Friday at the victim’s residence in Radhakrishna Society.
As per the CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral, the accused arrived wearing an orange Swiggy T-shirt to pass himself off as a delivery agent. The elderly victim, Hansmukhbhai Jairam Patel, stated that the youth had been seen roaming in the area several times before approaching his house. The accused called the senior citizen to the gate, claiming he had a parcel that required a signature.
Despite being told that no order had been placed, the suspect insisted that the delivery was meant for him. As the elderly man leaned forward to sign, the accused allegedly snatched the gold chain from his neck and fled the spot.
The victim raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush out, but the suspect managed to escape before help arrived. The so-called parcel used as a decoy was later found to be a small white packet containing boondi.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the locality. Akota police have launched a search, and teams are analysing the footage to identify the suspect, described as a young man with a faint moustache, and trace his escape route. DeshGujarat
