Another night food bazaar to come up in Surat
January 08, 2026
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has proposed setting up another night food market to cater to the city’s growing population of food lovers. An estimated cost of ₹7.94 crore has been placed for approval before the Surat Municipal Corporation’s Public Works Committee for developing the facility in the Jahangirpura area of the Rander zone.
The existing night food market at Piplod has received an overwhelming response from citizens, with large crowds gathering late into the night, particularly during festivals, often resulting in long queues. Encouraged by its success, the civic body has decided to establish similar night food markets in other zones across the city.
As per the proposal, the new night food market will be developed at TP Scheme No. 30 (Wankala–Okha–Vihel), Final Plot No. 130, spread over approximately 8,559 square metres. The facility will include 28 food stalls, parking space for 122 two-wheelers and 12 four-wheelers, along with toilet blocks and watchman cabins. To avoid financial burden on the civic body, the project will be implemented using grants under the Swarnim Jayanti Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme for 2025–26.
