Class 10 student assaulted outside National High School in Ahmedabad; CCTV video emerges

Ahmedabad: Another incident, like the brutal murder of a student at Seventh Day School last year, has emerged today in the Ghatlodia area, where a Class 10 student was brutally assaulted outside the reputed National High School.

According to preliminary information, the student was attacked while he was outside the school premises and reportedly on his way to appear for an examination. A group of youths allegedly targeted him in what police believe was a pre-planned assault stemming from an old dispute. The attackers are said to have used wooden sticks, belts, and metal wristbands (kadas), causing injuries to the student’s head and body.

Following the incident, a team from the Ghatlodia police station rushed to the spot and shifted the injured student to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was later discharged after receiving primary medical care.

Assault captured on CCTV

The violent attack was captured on nearby CCTV cameras, showing a group of youths chasing and assaulting the student with sticks and belts. The footage has become a crucial part of the investigation and is helping police identify the attackers. Initial reports had suggested the use of a knife; however, school authorities later clarified that no sharp weapon was involved.

Police officials stated that the incident followed an argument between students, which later escalated into physical violence. A formal complaint has been registered at the Ghatlodia police station, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend all those involved.

School clarifies incident occurred outside campus

National High School trustee Ramesh Amin said the incident took place around 100 metres away from the school premises and not inside the campus. He clarified that the attackers were not students of the school.

“Our student was injured after being hit with a metal kada during a dispute involving outside students. The school arranged medical treatment at its own expense. After basic treatment, the student was sent home with his parents,” Amin said. He added that students have been advised to immediately approach school authorities in the event of any conflict.

Taking serious note of the incident, Gujarat Education Minister Dr. Pradyuman Vaja has sought a detailed report from the Ahmedabad District Education Officer (DEO). The minister issued strict instructions, stating that no compromise would be tolerated when it comes to student safety.

The DEO has held discussions with the school management and confirmed that the assailants were not students of the institution. Police have intensified the investigation, particularly as this is the second such incident reported in the city following a recent assault case near Seventh Day School.

Authorities have assured strict legal action against those responsible and stated that security measures would be strengthened to curb rising violence and the presence of antisocial elements around educational institutions. DeshGujarat
