Sabarmati: The High-Speed Rail Multi-Modal Hub at Sabarmati in Gujarat has achieved the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) “Gold Rating”, marking a significant milestone in sustainable infrastructure development within India’s high-speed rail sector. It is the first building associated with the country’s first Bullet Train project to receive the prestigious IGBC green certification.

The IGBC is India’s premier green building certification body and a founding member of the World Green Building Council, working to promote sustainability through green concepts and technologies.

The state-of-the-art facility has been developed to provide seamless connectivity with the Sabarmati railway stations, metro station, the under-construction Sabarmati Bullet Train station, and the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). The building’s façade features a large stainless-steel mural depicting the historic Dandi March movement.

The structure incorporates multiple green building features, including the installation of solar panels on terraces, landscaped terrace gardens, efficient water fixtures, and energy-efficient air-conditioning and lighting systems. Other sustainability measures include the use of certified green building materials, water-efficient low-flow plumbing fixtures, rainwater management systems, optimized natural lighting and ventilation, and effective waste management practices with segregation through designated collection bins.

Located on the eastern side of the Sabarmati Bullet Train station, the building is integrated with three foot overbridges (FOBs) equipped with travellators. These FOBs ensure smooth connectivity between the Bullet Train station, Sabarmati railway stations, the metro station, and the BRTS corridor.

The hub comprises twin structures with space earmarked for offices, commercial development, and retail facilities. A centrally located concourse at the third-floor level offers passenger amenities such as waiting lounges, retail outlets, and restaurants.

With this recognition, the Sabarmati High-Speed Rail Multi-Modal Hub sets a new benchmark for sustainable transport infrastructure, enhancing passenger convenience while significantly reducing environmental impact. DeshGujarat
