Gujarat Housing Board seals 35 flats in Ahmedabad; notices issued to 372 homeowners

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Housing Board has initiated strict action against housing scheme allottees in Ahmedabad for violating rules and misusing allotted flats. The move follows an intensive inspection drive that revealed several cases of houses remaining unused or being rented out illegally, in violation of Housing Board regulations.

Housing Board officials inspected 5,629 houses across various schemes in the city. Following the investigation, initial notices were issued to 372 homeowners for breaching housing scheme rules, while 35 flats were sealed immediately after serious irregularities were detected. Additionally, final notices were served to 63 owners, warning that their flats could be confiscated if compliance is not ensured.

Authorities said the action mainly targets beneficiaries who have failed to occupy or properly use the allotted houses. Reported violations include flats remaining locked for long periods, houses being illegally rented out, and allottees not shifting into the premises even after allocation.

Officials have set a target of inspecting 1,000 additional houses over the next month. If flats are found locked or misused during inspections, legal proceedings will be initiated to reclaim them for government use. DeshGujarat
