Ahmedabad’s SG Highway to be redeveloped as Iconic Corridor ahead of CWG 2030
February 05, 2026
Ahmedabad: The 30-km stretch of the Sarkhej–Gandhinagar Highway (SG Highway) from Sanathal Circle to G-7 Circle in Gandhinagar, connecting Ahmedabad with the state capital, will be redeveloped as an Iconic Road ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2030.
The decision was announced after the weekly Standing Committee meeting of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) held today. Highlighting the importance of the SG Highway as a key identity of Ahmedabad, Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani said that a comprehensive development plan has been prepared for the entire stretch of approximately 30 kilometres, from Sanathal Circle to G-7 Circle in Gandhinagar. The road will be developed on the lines of the iconic Airport–Indira Bridge corridor.
The project will be undertaken on a priority basis through a coordinated effort involving the National Highways Authority, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, AUDA, GUDA and Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. The redevelopment will be carried out by the UN Mehta Foundation, which will also bear the entire cost of consultancy for the project.
As a result, in the coming period, the SG Highway will be transformed into a newly developed 30-kilometre stretch featuring beautification and landscaping elements such as gazebos, similar to the recently developed ISKCON-to-Pakwan road. This initiative is expected to further enhance the city’s infrastructure and global image. DeshGujarat

Pls dont add concrete it looks horrible
Will SG Hwy be redeveloped as per originally planned width. This road is heavily encroached from ISKCON Circle to Thaltej Circle. Large sections of Service Roads have been encroached by Temples, Gurudwara and business establishments, endangering life of commuters, especially pedestrians.
The design needs to be differently approached to tackle several technical, social, & environmental challenges typically faced in Ahmedabad, such as unregulated, haphazard traffic flow. The project needs to be sustainable over the next decades to come. New Roads have faced challenges in terms of sustainability issues.
