Rajkot: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Gujarat today nabbed a Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) officer red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 near Race Course Ground in Rajkot.
The accused, Dharmendra Saryuprasad Yadav (30), a Class-II CGST officer under the Ministry of Finance posted in Rajkot, had allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant for submitting a final verification report related to an export-import firm opened by the complainant and his partner.
According to the ACB, the demand for ₹5,000 was made on Sunday, February 8, and the complainant was asked to pay the amount the following day. Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB in Rajkot and lodged a formal complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB laid a trap during which the accused allegedly accepted the bribe amount of ₹5,000 in the presence of independent witnesses, following which he was apprehended on the spot. The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession. Further legal proceedings are underway. DeshGujarat
