VMC Proposes 3 New Sports Complexes, Cricket Ground in Budget 2026-27

Vadodara: As part of its vision for a healthier and more active “Sanskar Nagari,” the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has earmarked a massive ₹350 crore for the development and upgradation of sports facilities across the city. The announcement was made in the budget for the financial year 2026–27.

New Sports Hubs in East and West Zones

A major portion of the allocation has been dedicated to the construction of three brand-new sports complexes strategically located in the city’s east and west zones. These facilities are planned in high-growth areas, including Gotri, Sayajipura, and Akota.

The budget specifically provides ₹100 crore for the development of these multi-zone sports complexes to ensure modern facilities are accessible to residents across Vadodara.

Modernising Existing Facilities

In addition to new construction, the VMC is prioritising the upgradation of existing sports infrastructure to meet international standards. A dedicated ₹30 crore has been set aside for the renovation and modernisation of established sports complexes in Manjalpur, Sama, and Akota. These upgrades aim to revitalise older venues and provide improved training environments for local athletes.

Focus on Cricket and Professional Training

Highlighting the city’s strong interest in cricket, the budget also includes ₹15 crore for the development of a specialised cricket ground. The move forms part of the VMC’s broader strategy to enhance citizen engagement by creating high-quality public recreational and competitive sporting spaces. DeshGujarat
