Ahmedabad to Get 3 new Underpasses, 1 Flyover as AMC Sets Aside ₹50 Crore in Budget

Ahmedabad: The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC)’s Standing Committee has proposed a ₹50-crore allocation in the 2026–27 budget for the construction of new underpasses, underbridges and overbridges at key locations across the city, aiming to improve traffic flow and commuter convenience amid rapid urbanisation and rising vehicle numbers.

The overall AMC budget for 2026–27 has been finalised at ₹18,518 crore, including additions worth ₹1,500 crore suggested by the Standing Committee over the draft budget of ₹17,018 crore that was presented last week by the Municipal Commissioner. Of the total outlay, ₹11,082.85 crore has been earmarked for development works.

Proposed underpasses, underbridges and overbridges

The budget proposal includes the construction of a flyover from the Danilimda intersection to Khodiyarnagar to reduce traffic pressure at the four-road junction.

A new restricted-height underpass is planned near the Tragad crossing in the Chandlodia ward to facilitate easier access for residents.

Additionally, an underpass is proposed on the road connecting Divya Jyot School to Shilaj in the Thaltej ward, along with another underpass near Town Planning (T.P.) Schemes 72 and 233 in the Chandlodia ward to improve traffic movement in the area.

Civic authorities noted that traffic congestion has emerged as a major challenge in metropolitan cities due to rapid urban development and population growth. Ahmedabad has developed an extensive bridge network to support smooth vehicular movement, and the proposed projects aim to further strengthen mobility infrastructure.

The restricted-height underpass near the Tragad crossing is expected to reduce the nearly two-kilometre detour currently required for residents to reach the Sadhi Mata temple and crematorium located across the railway crossing.

Overall, the ₹50-crore provision is intended to support the construction of new underpasses and related bridge infrastructure at key locations across Ahmedabad, ensuring smoother traffic flow and improved mobility for citizens. DeshGujarat
