AMC presents ₹18,518 Crore budget for 2026–27

Ahmedabad: The Standing Committee of the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today presented a budget of ₹18,518 crore for the financial year 2026–27. The budget allocates a substantial ₹11,082.85 crore for the city’s overall development. The Standing Committee has proposed an increase of ₹1,500 crore over the draft budget of ₹17,018 crore presented by the Municipal Commissioner.
Major tax relief and eco-friendly initiatives
The budget outlines key measures benefiting taxpayers and promoting environmental sustainability:
Up to 15% rebate on advance property tax: Citizens who pay advance property tax online and have done so for three consecutive years will receive a total rebate of up to 15%.
100% rebate for electric vehicles: Under the National Clean Air Programme, all new electric vehicles will receive a 100% rebate on lifetime vehicle tax to help reduce air pollution.
Relief for charitable hospitals: Trust-run hospitals and physiotherapy centres will receive a 70% property tax rebate.
Strong focus on infrastructure and town planning
With the city expanding rapidly, significant allocations have been made for infrastructure:
New TP scheme development: ₹120 crore has been earmarked for basic amenities and Smart Final TP development in Bhadaj, Oganaj, Jagatpur and Nikol.
Drainage and road network: ₹115 crore has been allocated for rehabilitation of dilapidated drainage lines, along with ₹100 crore for new stormwater pumping stations.
Flyovers and underpasses: ₹50 crore has been set aside for a new flyover from Danilimda to Khodiyarnagar and new underpasses in Tragad and Thaltej to ease traffic congestion.
Modern city attractions planned
As Ahmedabad prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, the budget proposes several landmark projects:
‘Amdavad Eye’: A giant observation wheel on the Sabarmati Riverfront, inspired by the London Eye.
Floating solar project: Installation of floating solar panels on the riverfront and city lakes at an estimated cost of ₹50 crore.
Iconic roads and glow gardens: Development of LED-lit glow gardens and green iconic roads in both eastern and western parts of the city.
Viratnagar Super-Specialty Hospital: A ₹50-crore hospital in eastern Ahmedabad for the treatment of heart disease, cancer and other critical illnesses.
Social welfare and education initiatives
Ahmedabad Darshan for senior citizens: City sightseeing tours will be organised in collaboration with AMTS.
Digital and smart education: An English-medium smart school will be launched in Thaltej, and sanitary pads will be distributed to school students.
