Zomato food delivery rider dies after being hit by Thar in Vadodara; female driver held

Vadodara: A food delivery worker was killed in a road accident in the early hours of Saturday after an SUV allegedly driven recklessly by a 19-year-old woman ran him over on Sun Pharma Road in the city.
The incident took place around 1:30 am near the Bhim Talav junction, when 27-year-old Abhishek More was passing through the area on his motorcycle. A speeding Mahindra Thar struck the two-wheeler, killing him on the spot. Police believe he died due to a severe head injury.
A police patrol team reached the scene and detained the woman driver along with two young women who were travelling with her. The driver was identified as Rishika Sadanani, a resident of the Racecourse area of Vadodara.
Two more incidents of Thar vehicle accidents have come to light in last two days. More’s father, Vasudev More, lodged a complaint against Sadanani at the Atladara police station, alleging that the vehicle was being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner. Sources said the deceased worked for a courier company and also delivered food through an aggregator platform.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjita Vanzara told mediapersons that Sadanani had been detained. Blood samples of all three occupants of the car were collected to determine whether they were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
CCTV footage of the accident has also surfaced and will be examined by experts to estimate the vehicle’s speed, Vanzara said. Tension briefly escalated when the accused was brought to the accident site, where the victim’s family expressed anger at both the accused and the police.
According to officials, the three women had attended a wedding at a resort in Dumad on the highway and were heading towards Sun Pharma Road to drop one of them home when the accident occurred.
