Regional Science Centre in Porbandar, District Science Centre in Vav-Tharad Announced in Budget

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has earmarked a total provision of ₹2,634 crore for the Science and Technology Department in the Budget for 2026–27, with key initiatives aimed at strengthening innovation infrastructure, semiconductor development, electronics manufacturing, and scientific outreach across the state.

Among the major announcements, the government has made a provision of ₹25 crore for the establishment of a Regional Science Centre at Porbandar, intended to promote scientific awareness, education, and public engagement in coastal and surrounding regions. In addition, a District Science Centre is planned to be set up in the newly formed Vav-Tharad district, expanding access to science learning facilities in rural and border areas.

The budget also includes a provision of ₹1,100 crore under the Gujarat Semiconductor Policy to accelerate semiconductor ecosystem development, along with a provision of ₹150 crore for assistance under the Gujarat Electronics Policy. A further ₹50 crore has been proposed for infrastructure development at the Dholera Special Investment Region, supporting high-technology industrial growth.

To encourage emerging technologies, the government has made a provision of ₹30 crore under the Gujarat Future Technologies Initiative and ₹25 crore for developing the space ecosystem under the Gujarat Space Tech Policy. Additionally, ₹10 crore has been set aside under the Global Capability Center (GCC) Policy to attract global capability centres to the state.

The government has also proposed the establishment of a BioE3 Cell to promote high-performance bio-manufacturing through innovation-driven research, sustainability, and employment generation.

These initiatives collectively aim to position Gujarat as a leading hub for advanced technology, research, and science education while ensuring regional access to scientific infrastructure. DeshGujarat
