AMC Razes Illegal Encroachments Obstructing Vishala–Sarkhej Elevated Corridor Project
February 26, 2026
Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Thursday carried out a demolition drive along the Vishala–Sarkhej stretch of the National Highway in the South West Zone to clear constructions obstructing the elevated corridor project being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
The action was initiated after certain encroachers failed to comply with directions issued by the Gujarat High Court. In a Special Civil Application, the court had, on December 23, 2025, ordered the affected occupants to voluntarily remove the portions of their structures falling within the road alignment and hand over possession within two months.
While some occupants complied with the order, others failed to remove the constructions within the stipulated period, prompting the authorities to proceed with enforcement.
On Thursday, AMC teams undertook the removal operation under the provisions of the Town Planning (TP) Act. The demolition was carried out using two dumpers, one Hitachi machine, one JCB machine, and the assistance of around 20 labourers engaged through a private contractor.
The drive was conducted to facilitate the elevated corridor project aimed at easing traffic congestion along the Vishala–Sarkhej National Highway stretch. DeshGujarat
