Ahmedabad: A new 100 MLD (million litres per day) water treatment plant will be set up at the Raska facility at a cost of ₹80 crore to meet the city’s growing drinking water demand. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s Water Committee Chairman Dilip Bagaria said the move comes amid rapid urban expansion in newly merged areas from Vastral to Kamod, where infrastructure such as water supply, drainage, roads and streetlights is being strengthened.

Currently, residents rely heavily on borewells. The additional 100 MLD unit aims to reduce groundwater depletion and salinity issues. Once operational, it will supply safe drinking water to nearly five to six lakh people.

As no land was available at the existing site, the state government acquired 27,516 sq m in Chavalaj village adjacent to the plant at a cost of ₹1.89 crore to facilitate the expansion. DeshGujarat
