Mob Violence in Danilimda Leaves Cop Injured; 4 Held

Ahmedabad: Tension flared in the early hours of Sunday in a communally sensitive area, leaving a police constable injured after a mob allegedly chased and attacked a man who had been taken to Danilimda police station for his safety.

According to Zone-6 DCP Bhagirathsinh Gadhvi, the incident occurred around 12.25 am when four members of a family, including a 17-year-old girl, were travelling on two scooters from Kagdapith towards Behrampura. During the journey, a biker allegedly rammed into one of their scooters, triggering a heated argument.

As the dispute escalated, the family left the spot and alerted members of their community nearby. A group then allegedly intercepted the biker and began assaulting him.

A traffic police constable who noticed the commotion intervened, rescued the biker and escorted him to Danilimda police station. However, some members of the mob reportedly followed them there and resorted to stone-pelting. The biker sustained injuries in the attack, while a police constable suffered minor injuries. Additional police personnel were deployed to bring the situation under control, Gadhvi said.

Police registered three FIRs in connection with the incident. The family lodged a complaint at Kagdapith police station alleging sexual harassment and hurting religious sentiments against the biker. A separate FIR was filed against the biker by a police official. At Danilimda police station, another FIR was registered against seven persons on charges of attempt to murder and assault on a public servant. Four accused have been arrested so far, police said.
