FIFA President congratulates Jay Shah on ‘wonderfully organised’ ICC T20 World Cup

Ahmedabad: FIFA President Gianni Infantino has congratulated ICC President Jay Shah following the successful organisation of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which concluded with host nation India winning the title at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
India clinched a historic third T20 World Cup title, their second consecutive triumph, by defeating New Zealand in front of a packed crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, received widespread praise from the global sporting community for its grand scale and smooth organisation.
Following the tournament’s success, Infantino shared a congratulatory message on Instagram, appreciating the efforts of the International Cricket Council and its president Jay Shah.
In his post, Infantino wrote, “Congratulations to the ICC and my friend Jay Shah for another wonderfully organised T20 World Cup. Many congratulations to 🇮🇳 India for another title – having visited your wonderful country, I know how much this means to you”

Infantino had earlier met Jay Shah in Milan in February this year, marking a notable interaction between the governing bodies of football and cricket. After the meeting, the FIFA president shared a photograph on Instagram praising Shah’s work in expanding the global reach of cricket and also extended his best wishes for the sport’s return at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
On Sunday, Infantino also posted a picture holding an Indian cricket jersey and congratulated the Indian team for winning a record third Men’s T20 World Cup title. He further expressed his desire to work together with Shah to “unite the world through sports.”
Since taking over as ICC President, Jay Shah has played a significant role in expanding cricket’s global footprint.
