Gujarat HC Disqualifies Kiran More, Three Others from Baroda Cricket Association Elections
March 16, 2026
Vadodara: The Gujarat High Court today delivered its judgment on a petition related to the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) elections, declaring four candidates, including former cricketer Kiran More, ineligible to contest. The single-judge bench set aside the decision of the returning officer to accept their nomination forms and directed the election officer to declare the results accordingly.
The court passed the order after a detailed hearing on a petition filed by Pradipsinh Solanki and Ramchandra Prajapati from Vadodara, who had challenged the eligibility of the candidates.
The petitioners had made the BCCI, Baroda Cricket Association, Kiran More, Amul Jikar, Anant Indulkar, and Amar Patiwala parties to the case. The dispute was related to elections for posts including president, secretary, and treasurer of the BCA.
According to the Supreme Court’s 2022 judgment, a person becomes ineligible after holding office for nine years. In addition, a three-year cooling-off period is mandatory after two consecutive terms.
The petitioners argued that these rules were violated and that the election officer had wrongly accepted the nomination forms. The High Court agreed with the contention and declared the candidates ineligible.
Results to be declared after two weeks
The High Court has directed the election officer to declare the results. However, considering the request of the opposing side, the court granted two weeks’ interim relief, allowing time to file an appeal before a division bench.
As a result, the BCA election results are expected to be declared after two weeks.
Current situation in BCA
Until the results are declared, the existing BCA committee will continue to handle day-to-day functioning in a working (acting) capacity. However, the committee will not take any major policy decisions during this period.
It may be noted that 69.28 percent voting was recorded in the BCA elections held on February 15, 2026. The main contest is between the Royal Satyamev Jayate Group, associated with Maharaja Samarjitsinh Gaekwad, and the Revival Group.
Appeal likely against single-judge order
The disqualified candidates are expected to challenge the order before a division bench of the High Court. Until further orders, the current BCA committee will continue in a temporary capacity. DeshGujarat
