Vadodara: A portion of the terrace of a three-storey apartment in the Vijayanagar area near Sangam Char Rasta in Vadodara city suddenly collapsed on Monday evening. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident, though several vehicles parked below the building were badly damaged.
According to initial information, the collapsed slab fell directly into the open space in front of the apartment, where multiple vehicles were parked. At least four to five vehicles were crushed under the debris and sustained severe damage.
On receiving the alert, a team from Panigate Fire Station rushed to the spot and immediately began evacuation and rescue operations. Around 40 residents of the building were safely evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Fire brigade officials said that a special rescue team safely brought down an elderly woman who was unable to walk. Authorities also disconnected the electricity supply to the four upper residential units to prevent any further risk.
As a safety measure, the entire apartment building has been cordoned off, and residents have been instructed not to enter until a structural safety inspection is completed.
A fire brigade official stated, “Four upper houses have been evacuated as a precaution and the power supply has been cut off. The Vadodara Municipal Corporation will inspect the structural stability of the building. Residents will be allowed to return only after the inspection confirms the building is safe.” DeshGujarat
