78 Traffic Signals in Ahmedabad to Remain on Blinker Mode in Afternoon on Heatwave Days; Full List Here
March 17, 2026
Ahmedabad: In a move to protect citizens from the scorching summer heat, the Ahmedabad Traffic Police has decided to put several traffic signals across the city on blinker (flash) mode during peak afternoon hours.
The decision, issued by the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), aims to prevent dehydration and heat-related health issues among vehicle drivers waiting at traffic intersections for long durations.
The blinker mode will be activated on days when the Meteorological Department issues Yellow, Orange, or Red heatwave alerts. Signals will remain on blinker mode from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM, when heat intensity is at its peak. A total of 78 major junctions across the city have been identified where traffic flow remains relatively manageable during these hours, allowing signals to be safely switched to blinker mode.
The list of 78 signals includes prominent junctions such as Thaltej Char Rasta, Sola Civil Char Rasta, Gota Char Rasta, IOC Cross Road, Silver Star Char Rasta, Science City Road, Navrangpura Char Rasta, Vijay Char Rasta, Kalupur Circle, Income Tax (Ashram Road), and Town Hall (Ellisbridge). Notably, signals at Shayona Char Rasta and Devnagar have been recommended to remain on blinker mode at all times.
The Traffic Police has directed the signal department to implement the changes immediately whenever heatwave alerts are issued to ensure commuter safety. Drivers have been advised to exercise caution and maintain moderate speed while crossing junctions operating on blinker mode. DeshGujarat
