March 17, 2026
Jamnagar: A day after the arrival of LPG tanker Shivalik, another liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, MT Nanda Devi, has reached Vadinar port in Gujarat after crossing the Strait of Hormuz, amid the ongoing tension in West Asia.
The tanker is carrying around 46,500 metric tonnes of LPG, which will be transferred through a ship-to-ship (STS) operation at the Vadinar anchorage. The cargo will be moved to MT BW Birch, and the transfer process is scheduled to begin today, officials said.
Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), boarded the mother vessel MT Nanda Devi at Vadinar to review the arrangements and interacted with the captain and crew during the visit.
The arrival of the tanker comes shortly after LPG carrier Shivalik, indicating steady supplies of LPG reaching the western coast amid high demand.
The tanker MT Nanda Devi had departed from Ras Laffan, Qatar, on March 1, 2026, and arrived at Vadinar anchorage in Gujarat this morning. The vessel completed the voyage via the Strait of Hormuz, which is seeing high tension due to the war between Israel, the United States, and Iran that started on February 28.
The tanker transported LPG equivalent to nearly 32.4 lakh standard 14.2-kg domestic cylinders used in Indian households. It is learnt that 24,000 metric tonnes of LPG arriving in the tanker will be dispatched to Tamil Nadu. DeshGujarat
