Ahmedabad: The Food Department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has issued a notice and imposed a penalty on a restaurant on Sindhubhavan Road following a complaint of unhygienic food.

According to an official press note, a complaint was received on March 18, 2026, alleging that a customer found a dead fly in garlic bread served at Komo by Kaffa restaurant. Acting on the complaint, the Senior Food Safety Officer conducted an inspection of the premises.

During the inspection, it was found that the restaurant holds a valid FSSAI licence, which is valid till September 21, 2030. The establishment had also carried out pest control through a Gujarat government-approved agency on March 2, 2026, with the certificate valid for one month. Additionally, the restaurant has an active contract with an authorised agency for kitchen waste disposal.

Officials contacted the complainant to verify the details and requested their presence at the site; however, the complainant could not attend due to other commitments.

Based on the findings, AMC has issued a notice to the restaurant under the GPMC Act for negligence and collected ₹50,000 as a municipal administrative charge. Food samples, including garlic bread and used cooking oil, have also been collected and sent to the Public Health Laboratory for testing under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

The AMC stated that strict action will be taken against any individual or establishment found compromising public health under the FSSAI and GPMC Acts.
