Delivery of 10 New Trainsets for Ahmedabad Metro Likely to Commence from June 2026

Gandhinagar: The delivery of the 10 metro trainsets ordered from Titagarh Rail Systems Limited for the Ahmedabad Metro is expected to commence from June 2026 onwards, Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Limited stated.

The additional trainsets are part of the state government’s plan to strengthen urban transport infrastructure, particularly for Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II, which connects Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Officials said the new rakes will help increase train frequency, reduce waiting time for passengers, and improve overall operational efficiency.

Earlier, in 2023, Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd had secured a contract worth around ₹350 crore to supply 10 metro trainsets for the Ahmedabad Metro. The first trainset from this order was unveiled by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in December 2025 at Titagarh’s Kolkata facility, while the remaining trainsets will begin arriving in the city from June this year.

Under Ahmedabad Metro Phase-II, a 68.2-km metro network linking Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar is operational, with around 32 trainsets currently in service. The addition of 10 new trainsets is expected to support rising passenger demand and future expansion of the network.

The new trainsets will be equipped with advanced technology including automated control systems, real-time monitoring, energy-efficient operations, CCTV surveillance, fire detection systems, and enhanced passenger safety features, aimed at making Gujarat’s metro network more reliable, safe, and commuter-friendly.
