4 Packages of SAUNI Yojana Under Progress; All Other 30 Complete: Govt

Gandhinagar: As per the data shared by the state government in the Gujarat Assembly, the ambitious Saurashtra Narmada Avtaran Irrigation (SAUNI) project, aimed at filling dams in the Saurashtra region with Narmada water, is in the final stage of implementation, with only a few packages currently under progress.

The Water Resources Department stated that as of January 1, 2026, a total of 30 packages under the SAUNI project have been completed, enabling the filling of several dams in water-scarce areas of Saurashtra through the Narmada canal network. However, four packages are still under execution, and the government is working to complete them at the earliest to ensure full coverage of the region.

According to the details placed before the House, the pending works include Link-2 Package-9, Link-3 Package-10, Link-4B Package-7, and Link-4 Package-9 (Second Stage), which involve construction of pumping stations, laying of pipelines, and extension of feeder networks to additional reservoirs.

Details about the packages:

Under Link-2 Package-9 (Limdi Bhogawa-II to Raydi), pipelines and pumping infrastructure are being constructed to fill Bagad and Nikol Bandhara, along with Surajwadi, Shel Dedumal, and Malapara feeders. The work reportedly includes a pipeline network of about 58.7 km.

Under Link-3 Package-10, work is underway in the Jamnagar region for pipeline extension to supply water to Vartu-1, Kabarka, Sonmati, and Dondi reservoirs, with a pipeline length of about 16.39 km.

The government also informed that Link-4B Package-7 is one of the largest remaining works, involving construction of the Kalimbhada pumping station (MPS-04) and laying of large-diameter mild steel pipelines ranging from 2700 mm to 1350 mm, covering about 138.9 km, with branches to Chaparda, Madhuvanti, Bhadar, and Morsal dams.

Similarly, Link-4 Package-9 in Rajkot district includes infrastructure required for filling Vinchiya and Dharei reservoirs, and the work is currently under execution as part of the final phase of the scheme.

It is noteworthy that most of the SAUNI Yojana link packages have been completed, while the government has not specified the timeline for completion of the remaining four packages. DeshGujarat
