Gujarat Power Consumption Rises to 1.28 Lakh MU in 2025; 397 MU Surplus Sold in 2 Years

Gandhinagar: Electricity consumption in Gujarat has continued to rise. As per the data provided in the State Assembly, total electricity consumption in the state stood at 1,26,968 million units in 2024, which increased to 1,28,218 million units in 2025.

Figures related to power generation and procurement show that the electricity received by the state power company, Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL), was 1,21,776 million units in 2024, while 1,19,496 million units (provisional) were recorded in 2025.

Officials said the state also sold surplus electricity through power exchanges to manage supply efficiently.

According to the details, Gujarat sold 397 million units of surplus power through the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), Hindustan Power Exchange (HPX), and Power Exchange of India Ltd. (PXIL) during the last two years.

Through the Indian Energy Exchange, the state sold 127 million units at an average rate of ₹9.76 per unit in 2024 and 70 million units at ₹9.68 per unit in 2025.

On the Hindustan Power Exchange, 119 million units were sold at ₹9.97 per unit in 2024, while 6 million units were sold at ₹9.98 per unit in 2025.

Similarly, through the Power Exchange of India Ltd., the state sold 36 million units at ₹9.98 per unit in 2024 and 39 million units at ₹9.83 per unit in 2025.

The figures indicate that electricity demand in Gujarat is increasing steadily, while surplus power is being managed through planned sales in the power exchange market.
