Ahmedabad: A 37-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run accident involving a dumper near Vadaj Circle early Wednesday morning. The driver fled the scene, while locals chased the vehicle on two-wheelers but failed to stop it.
The deceased, Dhiren Parmar of Hanumanpura in old Vadaj, was returning home after having tea when the speeding dumper hit him around 5:30 am. He sustained severe head and body injuries and died on the spot, police said.
Based on a complaint by his wife Bhavna Parmar, B Division traffic police registered a case against the unidentified driver under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act for rash driving, causing death by negligence, and failing to stop after the accident.
Police are examining CCTV footage to identify the vehicle and driver.
In other incidents, a car mounted a footpath in Jamalpur late Tuesday night, while a motorcycle hit a scooter in Navrangpura early Wednesday, leaving one person seriously injured. Police have started inquiries in both cases. DeshGujarat
