March 30, 2026
Porbandar: The Ministry of Railways has notified the construction of an Integrated Coaching Depot (ICD) maintenance facility at Ranavav in Gujarat as a Special Railway Project, paving the way for land acquisition and infrastructure development.
Declaring the project a Special Railway Project gives the Central Government the authority to accelerate the land acquisition process specifically for this initiative, which has been recognised as infrastructure of national importance and a public-purpose development. This move streamlines land acquisition, reduces legal delays, and ensures the timely development of a modern maintenance facility for Vande Bharat and LHB (Linke-Hofmann-Busch) coaches.
Planned under the Bhavnagar railway division of Western Railway, the ICD is estimated to cost around ₹135 crore.
The facility aims to significantly enhance operational efficiency by providing dedicated infrastructure for the upkeep of advanced trainsets. It is also expected to reduce the maintenance burden on existing facilities, including those in Porbandar. DeshGujarat
