SMC Introduces Grease Chamber Cleaning Service for Restaurants and Cafés; Rates Announced
April 02, 2026
Surat: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced a new initiative to streamline the maintenance of grease chambers in commercial food establishments across all zones of the city.
Currently, a large number of restaurants, hotels, and cafes in Surat use grease chambers to separate solid waste from wastewater, preventing it from entering and clogging the city’s main sewage lines. While property owners and occupiers have historically managed the cleaning of these chambers independently, the SMC is now integrating this service into its official Complaint Management System to ensure more efficient and professional disposal of solid waste.
New Service Framework and Resolution
The initiative has been approved under Resolution No. 169/2026 dated March 10, 2026, passed at the monthly general board meeting. Detailed information is available on the official SMC website.
Service Options and Charges
Under the new system, grease chamber cleaning can be carried out by choosing either of the following options upon payment of prescribed charges (for up to 20 km distance, including one hour of travel time):
Option 1: Grab Bucket Machine Service

Long-term Pricing Schedule
To provide transparency for business owners, the SMC has outlined a five-year pricing schedule for these services. The rates will gradually increase annually through the 2029–30 financial year.
This new system is designed to provide improved services to city residents and ensure that the disposal of solid waste from the city’s food industry is handled in accordance with municipal standards. DeshGujarat
