Motorist Flags Blinding LED Light on Rear Side of Truck on Ahmedabad Highway

Ahmedabad: An incident highlighting the menace of illegal white LED lights mounted on vehicles has come to light. A video going viral on social media shows dangerously bright lights on the rear side of a truck, creating an optical illusion for a driver following behind.

In the 34-second nighttime footage, shared by one Mayur Panchal, intensely bright lights appear directly ahead of his car in the same lane, mimicking an oncoming vehicle. However, as the car approaches and overtakes the truck, it becomes clear that the banned white LED lights were actually mounted on the rear of a truck moving in the same direction.

Panchal shared the clip with the caption: “I was driving in absolute fear from the very beginning, worried that some vehicle was coming towards me on the wrong side. Has the fear of Gujarat Police reduced so much, or have people become this bold?” He also tagged Gujarat Police and senior officials, stating that the incident occurred near Kathlal-Mirzapur on the Ahmedabad highway in Kheda district.

Responding promptly, Gujarat Police directed the Superintendent of Police, Kheda, to instruct the traffic branch to take necessary action.

However, the incident highlights a different dimension of the problem. At a time when Gujarat Police is working to curb the use of banned LED headlights on vehicles, this case points to the growing misuse of auxiliary lighting, particularly on commercial vehicles.

The incident comes just months after the RTO issued a directive reiterating the ban on the use of aftermarket white LED lights as headlights in vehicles. This case, however, underscores another concern—some vehicle owners are not only modifying headlights but also installing unregulated rear lighting systems. Such excessively bright auxiliary lights can impair visibility and create dangerous misperceptions on highways, potentially leading to accidents. DeshGujarat
