BJP Wins 33 of 34 District Panchayats in Gujarat Local Polls 2026

Gandhinagar: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a massive win across the Gujarat local polls, winning 33 out of 34 district panchayats that went to polls, according to data released by the State Election Commission on counting day today. Out of the 34, Narmada is the lone district panchayat that the BJP lost to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

While counting is still ongoing on some seats, the BJP has delivered sweeping victories across key district panchayats, including:

Kachchh: BJP won 30 of 38 seats (1 unopposed), while Congress secured 4.

Banaskantha: BJP bagged 32 seats (1 unopposed), Congress 16.

Mehsana: BJP dominated with 38 of 42 seats, including 3 unopposed.

Ahmedabad: BJP secured 32 of 34 seats (1 unopposed), while Congress won 2.

Rajkot: BJP won 34 of 36 seats, with minimal opposition presence.

Surat: BJP clinched 35 of 36 seats (4 unopposed), further consolidating its stronghold.

In districts such as Surendranagar, Porbandar, Amreli, and Kheda, the BJP either swept nearly all seats or faced only marginal resistance.

The Indian National Congress (Congress) remained a distant second in most districts, managing scattered wins in places like Banaskantha (16 seats), Patan (13 seats), and Tapi (8 seats). Independent candidates and other parties had a negligible presence, with only a handful of seats across districts.

The only exception to the BJP’s near-total sweep was Narmada district, a tribal stronghold, where AAP candidates dominated, winning 15 of 22 seats, while the BJP secured just 7. This made Narmada the lone district panchayat not won by the BJP.

Meanwhile, the BJP remained dominant in other tribal belt districts like Dahod and Chhota Udaipur, winning with large majorities.

With this result, the BJP has once again proved its position as the biggest political force across all tiers of governance in the state. DeshGujarat
