Surat: The Gujarat government on Thursday announced the development of eight new Smart GIDC estates across South Gujarat to strengthen industrial infrastructure and boost regional growth. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel during the third edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held at Auro University in Surat on the occasion of Gujarat Foundation Day.

These eight Smart GIDCs will be developed across five districts namely Bharuch, Navsari, Surat, Tapi and Valsad and will span a total area of around 5,380 acres. The estates will be equipped with modern, state-of-the-art infrastructure aimed at enhancing industrial efficiency and attracting investment.

The initiative is expected to provide a major push to South Gujarat’s industrial ecosystem, particularly in key sectors such as chemicals, textiles, pharmaceuticals and engineering.

The conference, being held on May 1 and 2, has brought together international partners including Japan, Rwanda, Ukraine and Singapore, highlighting Gujarat’s growing global industrial engagement. Several MoUs worth crores were signed during the event, alongside the launch of a special cover on the Surat Cut Diamond GI tag.

The conference spotlights the industrial potential of six districts, Surat, Bharuch, Dang, Navsari, Tapi and Valsad, with a parallel exhibition showcasing innovations, MSMEs and multinational companies.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Patel said Gujarat continues to lead in infrastructure-led industrial development, noting that the state handles nearly 40% of the country’s total cargo and remains a frontrunner in attracting foreign direct investment.

Officials said the newly announced Smart GIDCs will play a key role in bridging infrastructure gaps, supporting industrial expansion and positioning South Gujarat as a competitive global manufacturing hub. DeshGujarat
